Well Paul, my first skin on frame (a la Putz) was done with cotton and copper tacks and it took hours and hours not minutes! With tacks at 1 1/2" centers it takes 300 tacks to do the hull and then another 200 to attach the deck cover. I chose stainless staples for my second and this was far quicker.
