While I would instinctively eschew plastic cable housings, that is not necessarily correct. Plastic cable sheaths can survive for many years without wearing out. I'm not saying yours will, for I do not know their plastic and history. I am saying that things like my plastic sheathed (no metal liner) tach cable has survived for many years and hundreds of thousands of miles.
