Bicycle cable tends to rust in a few years. In a boat, particularly one in salt water, the life of the cable would be rather short.
Most hobby stores sell brass tubes in 1 foot lengths, and various diameters. Why not get some of those for reinforcing the areas where the cables go around bends?
