I use long boards on both the infeed and outfeed side of the saw but I am ripping 20 foot boards. With 6 footers you can easily support the board as you are infeeding and only need support on the outfeed side. Making your fence as long as possible is a good idea as it helps aligning your board on infeeding and makes keeping it tight to the fence easier. Good luck. Alan
