Aloha from Hawaii, I am building one of Nicks Guillemot expedition singles, I started work on it two weeks ago (5 + hour days) and should have the deck finished next week. I am using Hawaiian premium curl Koa and Mango wood for the decks with Redwood for the hull(to cut down on cost and weight) Having followed this little newsgroup for the past month or so I have a question for you all. Has anyone used Automotive clearcoat instead of Spar varnish on their Kayaks??? I feel the advantage of Clearcoat over spar varnish are many fold including:
1/ Fast drying and re-coat time 2/ Extremely good UV protection 3/ Flexible but Ford truck Tough 3/ Compatible with all Automotive polishes I have used it on cars, Table tops, Bar stools but not on a kayak......Peter
