Actually, the 6 ft. long fence is a detrement. That would be good if your goal was to put a true edge on the board.

A shorter fence about 2 1/2 ft. (or shorter) would be better- with a feather board holding the wood tight to the fence pressing right before the blade. The shorter fence will allow the wood to travel along it's uneveness and give you constant strip thickness - which is your actual goal.
