All in all, after 4 coats of Captain's varnish (wet sanding between coats) it is hardly visible now. As to filling the weave, a few light coats of epoxy 24-48 hours apart presented no problems whatsoever for the rest of the kayak. I experienced no blush at all, with drying temperatures about 70 degrees most of the project. I did notice that when I got in a hurry and put more than the usual amount of epoxy (again trying to fill the weave) I just had more runs and eventually had more to sand off when getting ready to finish the surface. Just remember to use light coats instead of on heavy one. I chose not to fill the weave on the inside of the hull, trying to save a little weight. My kayak weighs in at 38 pounds, and is prettier than I could have ever imagined. My next project will be an Arctic Tern in a few months.
