Since we dsign many kayaks we have a sort of routine that we always follow. First off, we know that the center of your weight should be right at your, excuse me, crotch. This anatomical feature should be about 15" forward of the aft bulkhead. Once the computer generated hydrostatics determine the center of bouancy of the boat we place the seat in the boat so that these points align. Next, we paddle it and see how it trims. If it sits on it's lines, and it almost always does, no adjustment is needed. If it trims by the bow or stern, we move the seat an inch or two. Of course the second part of this is achiving neutral balance in crosswinds and this may cause a second slight adjustment in seat position.
