Hi howdy Paul,

First, Welcome to the wonderful world of boat building!

Let's see now : check, double-check, and triple-check your measurements before making that final cut. If your using high-grade plywood, mistakes can be costly. ( I know )

Don't use too much epoxy. it can add unwanted weight. Rollers and squeegees are probably the best application tools, maybe a combo of both. Roll on, then squeegee off. I think I've got about 5 pounds of extra in my boat.

If possible, try out some similar boats to the one you are going to build. if there is something you don't like, perhaps you can modify your boat accordingly. eg. I would have enlarged my cockpit.

DON'T RUSH! Take your time, no matter that it's 70 degrees and sunny with negligible wind, and the water looks like glass. It WILL be like that again, but you only get one chance when building.

Don't be hesitant to ask questions, here or anywhere else. Most of us have been where you are ot one time, and probably most of us have had DUMB questions. I say, the only dumb question, is the one that isn't asked. There is a lot of experience on this board, and people are glad to help if they can. I also read "The Kayak Shop", and felt that it helped tremendously.

And lastly: Don't forget to mow the lawn, take out the garbage, and any other normal household chores. This tends to really tick off the wife, and your creation becomes referred to as, that THING in the garage!

Well, that's bout all I can think of, right off the top-o-me head, so have fun, take your time,and...GET OUT THERE! I'm sure we'll be hearing from you, so til then, Later

Rick
