I would build the boat as if you are not going to install the skeg. After you have fiberglassed the inside of the hull will be the time to gut the hole right through the fiberglass and everything.

It sounds like your location is OK. If you are using a pre-manufactured skeg unit, place the deck on the hull and check the fit of the unit under the deck. Try to put the skeg as far back as it will fit. Nick
