Paul, I've just finished a paddle for my wife from Laughing Loon's plans I am very pleased with the finished product. I altered the plans slightly and used light weight woods along with graphite and fiberglass. The paddle is light at 24oz. The shaft is oval and the blades are strips of different types of woods. The plans cost $22 and include 3 paddles, seat, hip braces, thigh braces and a skirt.
