Gentlemen: I would encourage you to look strongly at another popular hatch, the Kayak Sport hatch that is used on the Current Designs, Nigel Dennis Romany and some Dagger production boats. They appear to have a simpler installation that would be nice for home-builts and are a lower profile than the VCPs. I find the 10" round hatches more than adequate to stuff expedition stuff in the hold of my Romany Explorer. They also make larger oval hatches. I recommend contacting Current Designs or Dagger to source them.
