I think it (or something very similar) is used for industrial packaging. I've been to a store in northern Indiana that sells used 4X8, 3" sheets for $15 or so. People use them like air mattresses in the lakes. Sorry, I can't recall the name of the store. Hardware stores sell kneeling pads for gardening that are nice for seat backs and thigh braces and such. Have a look at those.
