Wrong choice of material, tried to use mini blind slates, too brittle and I discovered that it also trapped lots of glue behind it. That's why they are only there for the first few days.
Yes, I did use the inner stems but I didn't get the strips down where they should have been in the stern so there wasn't much contact, i use the interlocking method th add strength there. the front worked out good , lots of contact on the beveled stem.
