I have come to the same point on my Pygmy, and I am thinking of having a thin cable that hooks under the center of the hatch cover and connects through the base of the hull through an eye hole then to the cockpit where I would pull or release the wire to open or tighten the hatch. This is similar to the bunge idea I have seen on this bulletin board but the main differnce is you can make it have a tighter seal, and to open it you are not fighting a bungee so it negates the need for a finger hole or pull string. I have not built this yet and am still thinking of other ideas, would like some feedback. thanks.
