I used 3M 2" wide packing tape to join the deck and hull. I made sure that I wrapped all the way around so I had the tape overlapping itself. I wrapped every 12 inches or so. After that, I went back and put a long strip along the seam on each side to keep the epoxy inside the boat. I had no problem with the tape remaining tight. Using the "flat twine" in this way could be expensive. I seem to remember that stuff not being cheap. I found that fiberglass reinforced tape wasn't necessary.
