Another thought in this line of thinking. I used the CLC recommended Brass ring nails.( hard to find) They are fairly hard to see from a distance, but mine were not real uniform, so I covered them. I used a 3/4 inch wide automotive trim stripe. When done, it is 4 thin black lines evenly spaced. Nothing fancy, easy to put on, and cheap. And when it gets beat up looking, I can re-apply, or try something different.
