I find these threads fascinating. In every advancement, there is always the "tried and true" and the "new and different". Sometimes the news becomes tried and true, usually it flops. That doesn't make one better than the other, just different. The way I look at this, we are not building airplanes here. To most of us, a 20 or 30 percent weight difference is not that significant. To some applications it is. Both viewpoints are equally valid solutions to the same problem in my eyes, applicable to different goals.
