> Brian I have not used Kevlar in the kits I have used. But I did have a great time making a few dozen 4mm plywood test panels with various laminations using 4,6 oz S and E glass, 5 oz kevlar,8oz carbon, and 4 oz polyester. I would recommend trying out a few combinations then beating the heck out of them before building your boat. I got a real sense as to how various layups and materials interact. My general impression is that how and where materials are laminated can make as much or greater difference than the type of fabric is used. For ease of repairs and strength I think kevlar should stay on the interior of the boat. On the test panels I was surprised how varying the angle of succesive layers 45 degrees affected strength and propogation of cracks. The major impression I came away with was that it takes more material (heavier) to make something significantly stronger. great revelelation I know but thems my experience. Judicious use of s-glass on the exterior would be a thought. you might need to cut the kevlar for the interior of the hull into a couple pieces to make laminating easier.
