I built a chesapeake 17 last year and am pleased how it turned out. Before installing the deck, I glassed adjustable footbraces with backing plates, fore and aft bulkheads and I epoxied the cockpit floor with 6 oz cloth. The latter added weight but helps protect from sand and grit abraision. To compensate for the added weight, I layed off the donuts for awhile.
