Dan, I'm finishing up a Tred Avon with stripped deck of 1-1/2" fir and redwood accents. I added several deckbeams, taped them off and stripped to them, then put the outer layer of glass on the deck. Then I put the first two layers of the coaming on. Then I removed the deck, to finish the interior. I'm almost ready to re-install it permanently, just as if it were plywood.

I think it will look real nice. It did add some weight, I think the finished boat will be around 70 pounds. With the added deckbeams it is a lot stronger than the ply would have been. I have 4oz glass outside, three coats epoxy inside.

It will be done in another month I hope. I'll post pix then if I can figure out the camera trick. I think with thinner strips of Redwood or Cedar the weight penalty would not be so great. Go for it!
