Dan,

The best advice I can give is some I wish I had gotten BEFORE I bought my kit. Try to paddle as many kit built boats as you can before you decide which one to build. You'll only build it once, but hopefully paddle it many times.

In my case I got lucky. The first time I took my kayak out I was bummed on how bad my control of the boat was. Fortunatly, I've been able to slowly aquire the skills I need to operate it, and now I'm quite happy with the choice I made. If it were not for me being so stubborn and a bit on the stupid side, I might have given this up as a waste of money.

Just my 2 cents.
