A picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks. From your pictures I'm beginning to sort out a few things:

1) The short bungie is to secure the rudder when it is on the deck.

2) The long bungie is to provide tension to pull the rudder (up? down?) and (looking at a crude photo on Seaward's page) is secured to the deck with a padeye.

3) The heat shrink tubing is to cover the cable connection at the rudder.

4) The parachute cord is to (raise? lower?) the rudder and connects to a thingamajig behind the cockpit to hold it (up? down?).

The stern of my Guillemot is so narrow I'm a little leary the rudder would snap off with the least little sideways force. There isn't much there to drill in to. The pin is also long enough that it would stick out through the outer stem. It's too late for me to put a piece of hardwood in the stern 8^(

Maybe I should epoxy and fiberglass a small piece of oak to the stern, drill a hole in it and drop the pin in? The pin also has a tiny hole in it near the bottom that looks like it should accept a cotter pin or safty wire.

These O rings are very tiny. A total of 8 and just slightly larger than the diameter of the plastic tubing.
