Do you suppose 2 oz. glass would be better than nothing?

It would add a bit of tensile strength, and with your 22" deckbeam spacing, you don't need to have it provide a lot of structural strength.

If you sand back down almost to the wood, you probably wouldn't add all that much weight - you certainly wouldn't need to fill the weave under the deck.
