I took the following approach when I did the half decks on my sailing canoe. I precut the strips to size. Then I glued them in with epoxy about 3 or 4 at a time. In addition to the glue in the cove, I clearcoated the inside surface with epoxy. I tried to catch most of the drips with a sheet of plastic inside each end of the hull. After trimming the deck to size, I used a light glass layer that wraps agound the sheer.
