Rudder mount revisited

I just wanted to follow up on what I did to mount the rudder on the Guillemot:

I cut a piece if 1 1/4" dia wood dowel a little shorter than the pin mount on the rudder. I then took a rasp and squared up the stern just a tad. I epoxyied the dowel to the stern, wrapped it in a few layers of fiberglass tape, and then drilled a hole down through the center of the dowel. It feels rock solid and like it will take some abuse. I feel a little relieved that if the rudder gets hit real hard it should just destroy the dowel and not compromise the watertightness (is that a word?) of the hull.

I've managed to sort out all the other pieces to the rudder with the exception of one: A bungie cord about 5' long. I think Seaward refers to this as a "rudder tension lock", but I'm not sure. On Seaward's web site I found a picture where there appears to be a bungie tied to a padeye just forward of the rudder while on the deck. The picture isn't good enough to tell what or where it attaches on the rudder itself. I'll call Seaward tomorrow and find out.

Thanks for all the help and pictures!

Woody
