I don't know that you have to do anything differently. However, a second layer of cloth strip layed over the joints would make it stronger and may make you feel better about it.
Hmm. Come to think of it, it probably would be a good idea to coarsen up the wood surfaces as well for a better mechanical bond. The polyester doesn't soak into wood like the epoxy does. So a scuffed up surface would bond better then a smooth one.
