When I made the canoe paddles to go with my stripper, I followed the method that Gil Gilpatrick uses. When applying the glass fit a 1/8" nylon rope around the tip of the paddle. Then, after putting on the second piece of glass, fill in the gaps with epoxy. This makes for a tough tip that stands up to a lot of abuse
