Hi Dave,

I assume that you're doing a Stitch & Glue Kayak. There are a couple of other ways of fastening the deck without the Silicon Bronze Ring Nails.

Basically the nails are there to hold the deck in place til the epoxy dries.

#1) You may opt to use Brass Brads instead. These leave very small holes and can even be counter sunk a bit. You could then use a bit of filler on the hole, sand it smooth, and when you paint the hull, paint the very edge of the deck to cover the nail holes (about 1/4" or so in from the edge.)

#2) This may take a bit longer, and the deck needs to be cut a bit more precise than #1. Use Filament tape (the tape with the fibers in it.) Start at the center and work your way out. You may want to give this method a trial run first (without epoxy.)

#3) No problem with using staples, but you may as well take them out when the glue dries.
