Boat owners(large boats 25 feet and up)often renew their yachty finish by using polyurethane paint, usually 2 part.If properly prepped, and rolled and brushed, the boat actually looks better than new.The finish is tough, harder and more scratch resistant than gel coat, which can be soft at times, and looks a foot deep.A friend just finished his 30 y/o 25 Bertram-looks awesome. The trick is prep work,as the paint is so smooth and glossy that any blem looks huge. All dings, scratches gouges and warts must be filled with gelcoat repair or epoxy filler, sanded flush, and the whole surface sanded smooth and fair.Painting must be in a dust free zone, and of the proper temp and humidity- no soggy days.Worth the work ,though. Before painting his prize kayak, however, practice on his Porsche first.
