My brother had the same problem with his hatches. He tried to build them from the 6mm Okoume that we used for coaming rings. They didn't have enough radius. He ended up doubling up the weatherstripping on the outer edges. His hatches are quite dry now. (You could probably also use thinner weatherstrippng on the inside and thicker on the outer edges.
