veneer deck pattern of stitch-n-glue yak

Has anyone tried using contrasting wood veneers to place a pattern on the deck of a stitch-n-glue yak? This seems like a quick but effective way to dress up the deck and make it come closer in beauty to a well done stripper. If so, how did it come out?
