I used a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade. With a slow speed I cut the hatches with no problem and no chipping. Recently, I found a jigsaw blade designed for cutting laminates that has the teeth pointing downward. It cuts a nice smooth line on the saw side of the cut, but you've got to make certain you apply enough pressure to keep the saw down. It might be useful for cutting hatches as well.
