> Peter An old painters trick-add 10% Penetrol to the varnish a day in advance, and stir it in.Give a day to let any bubbles out,and it will go on smooth, brush out thin, and won't sag or run.Yacht finishers will let the varnish set a day or two, depending on the weather, and will then sand. The rule of thumb was to add a coat, sand off half a coat..to refresh the old finish, before it gets too beat up to renew, sand off a couple of coats, and put on 2 coats. With care, you can keep it up for 20 years without stripping.
