I have just (tonight) finished painting my third boat with Interlux Brightside. For the first two I followed the advice published in various soures to remove the amine blush, apply Brightside Primer and then Brightside. I was not totally happy with the results. I had problems with the primer not getting hard and having to sand it off ( a real pain). Also, the surface was not as smooth as I would have liked.
On my current project I applied Interlux Epoxy Barrier-Kote 404/414 over the epoxy and then applied the Brightside. I am much happier with the results. 404/414 is a two part epoxy primer. This process is documneted in an Interlux Data Sheet on Brightside available on their website (www.interlux.com). It is not mentioned by Interlux, but I would recommend wearing a respirator while using 404/414, as it really stinks. Anything that smells that bad can't be good for you either.
You will need a quart of Brightside to paint the hull. I had to apply three coats to get full coverage and used about 3/4 of a quart. You might get by with two coats, depending on the color.
