Bob- I paddled with a euro paddle for a couple of years before trying a native style paddle. The first few times out with the native paddle were awkward and I was not convinced that I would continue with it. To make a long story short, I never use my sport paddle anymore. I find bracing,rolling and going forward more efficient with the narrow blade. You get in the habit of sliding the blade out to the side you want to brace which gives you more leveage. The blades fit in yourhand better than a euro paddle which makes that action more confortable and secure. I find that I am less fatigued because the native style of paddling is a lower stroke and your are not lifting your arms as high. Paddleing into the wind is easier with a narrow blade unless you use a feathered sport paddle. I know some people have a tendancy towards wrist problems with feathered paddles. These are my opinions and experiences. If you can, try a few days with each style and decide what works best for you. Make sure you understand the technique for both styles so that you give them both a fair shake.
