It took me about 6-8 total hours of sanding. I applied epoxy in the cold (50-60 degrees F.), which caused it to go on thick and uneven. I used a quarter sheet sander and went as low as 60 grit, then 100, 150 and finally 220.
I second the motion of "keeping the pad flat" and resisting to use the edge of the sander to cut into drips/runs. Be very careful and try not to sand thru or into the cloth, especially if you are going to finish it bright. If you do, you must re-coat and sand again.
Also, take proper precautions with a respirator or at least a well fit dust mask.
