I am getting ready to purchase the wood to strip a Guillemot and I would like to use clear pine and Redwood. I can save about 1/2 on the Redwood if I use finger-jointed facia boards instead of a regular board although this hardly affects the cost of the finished boat. They are slightly thinner so the strips would be narrower than the pine. Has anyone done this? I have some guys trying to tell me the finger-joints would look cooler than straight strips but I'm a little skeptical about the artistic aspect of it.
