Hi Mike,

If you were going to leave your boat on a mooring, yes. If you're going to take it home after you paddle it, no. It really doesn't make much of a difference what type of paint you use on a kayak, it is more a question of what quality of finish you want on it. Auto paint is fine, and should give a nice finish, as long as your surface preparation is good.

And this means, you guessed it, sanding, sanding, sanding.
