I have built a few boats one of which has a an attractive weave pattern showing right through 2coats of epoxy and 3 coats of paint. That "telegraphing" took about a 1/2 year to develop and has not occurred in other boats. I think it has more to do with the moisture content in the wood when it was glassed and coated(theory du jour)
