Epoxy doesn't wet out fiberglass cloth differently or better than varnish, matter of fact, varnish may do a better job due to its lower viscosity. In my own experience, I would sand the area with some super fine 250 grit wet sandpaper. I have found that the smoother you sand glass thats been exposed from sanding , the better your results with making it transparent again.
