Hello, I also feel that you should leave well enough alone with the mahogany and let it darken naturaly, I am a cabinet maker and I will share with you a technique for bringing out the best in a wood's color that has been used for hundreds of years. Bichromate of Potash when mixed with warm water will turn an average piece of mahogany a deep "Georgian" red. Rather than dying the wood fibers this chemical reacts with the natural tannin in the wood. Please be aware that this chemical is toxic so handle it accordingly.
