I assembled our Nomad Tango that used this technique. This was my first boat, and I was very happy with the kit and we have enjoyed the boat.
In the Nomad, 2-3 layers of thick 4-inch wide fiberglass tape on the inside of the boat seals the joint and holds it together. No sealant is used, but it is difficult to get a good seal at the ends of the boat. End-pours at both ends take care of the remaining leaks. The Nomad plans don't call for any sealant in the H-channel. I would not think it would be much fun to try to fit everything together with that 5200 adhesive in the channels.
The Nomad H-channel has a small tube running through the middle. The rudder cables are run through the tube.
