I need to preface this response with the disclaimer that I've never tried this, but my son used it with pretty good results when we were putting epoxy onto the fabric a while back, and he got it from someone who worked with 'glass a lot.
He split a four inch roller in half the long way and held one of the halves in a Visegrip pliers as a handle. Rather than rolling on the liquid, this thing acted and looked like a cross between a roller and a squeegee, although it did tend to start falling apart a lot earlier than you'd expect a roller to fail. Has anyone tried this technique? I'm thinking of trying it out.
