> ross, In my first boat, patuxent(glass only on chines),I had one coat of resin on the inside of the cockpit. after half a year water mark streaks were showing up in the wood. subsequent boats that have been glassed inside get a fill coat. A well used kayak might have water sitting in it for only a few hours or a few days, all it takes is one hot day and some water to find out if the glass coat was sealing enough. The place to control overuse of resin is during the initial wetting and squeeging(sp?) or by pre-sealing the wood. the amount of weight saved by not filling the weave a little and thereby ensuring a good seal might be the difference wearing a paddling jacket and a short sleeve shirt,ie. a few ounces.
