Of course you can always calmp that strip in place by using a screw in a small scrap of wood strip, which is attached NEXT to the strip you want ot hold in place. There is no hole in your wood strip. The screw is driven into he form just outside your strip, and it pulls that little wood scrap down like a clamp, holding the strip in place until the glue sets. After that, back out the screw and add another strip, which will lay right on top of the screw hole. Reuse the scraps and screws in spots where the staples don't hold well enough.
