The Dzus fasteners that I used have a large wing on top and a round built in washer that pretty much covers the hole made for the fastener. The fasteners also have a tight fitting washer that goes on the inside of the hatch that holds the fastener on the hatch. When the hatch is closed down there is not any visible gaps around the fastener. I don't know how waterproof this whole hatch system is since I haven't gotten around to adding the weatherstripping around the hatch.
