Well I did one side last night - this is a very frustrating part of the project.
Problem 1 - I have had the hull and deck off the forms for too long. It took 6 web clamps ratchted down and 3 rolls of straping tape to get the allignment of the seam back where it was. Felt like I was wrestling an over size fish
Problem 2 - At 19'6" the Guillemot Exp single is long. I found that I couldn't get my head, one arm, and my headlamp in the hatches to get the ends aligned and smoothed out (BTW I chose to pre-wet the tape and roll it out rather than pre attach and wet out after) .... but when you do it from the cockpit my broom handle couldnt reach the end of the boat and control at 10'.
After much poking my head in and out of the boat, attaching a light in the boat and a lot of cursing I got the tape down.
Other questions
I plan to do put a second layer of 1" tape on top of the 2" tape. Do other folks do the two layers at once or do you wait for the first layer to dry?
Any other tricks or tips for rolling out wet tape? Mine kept "driving off the road" and flipping over.
