I had the same problem and as I read your message I thought of an idea (although as yet untried). What if you wrapped the tape around a short length of plastic tube like a drinking straw after it is wet out. Find the stiffest clothes hanger you can find and bend a length of it into an "L" shape. Tape the clothes hanger to a broomstick. Slide the plastic tube over the hanger/broomstick and just roll the fiberglass tape onto the seam.
