I too chose to paddle by Cape Charles for a year with just a couple of coats of epoxy on the deck. At the end of that time the epoxy had clouded up considerably.

At the start of the second season I sanded the deck down to bare wood, put on a couple of coats of epoxy and varnished the deck. It came out looking great. I had worried about being able to sand all the epoxy off without sanding through the thin top ply of my 3mm deck. Thanks to the miracle of random orbital sanders that was not a problem. I think I only went through the top ply in one place on the deck.
